Lockdown guidance for Inventory Clerks: stay Covid-safe and carry on

Inventory clerks can continue their regular work through the lockdown so long as they adhere to Cobid-safe protocols.

That’s the message from the managing director of the Association of Independent Inventory Clerks, Daniel Evans, who has issued lockdown guidance to members. 

Evans says that with regard to bookings, all appointments can continue under the existing restrictions including mid-term inspections.

“When completing mid-term inspections there will be a heightened sensitivity when visiting a property so would recommend confirming in advance that tenants are available and willing to provide access, and will maintain social distancing by leaving the property or keeping a two-meter distance” says Evans. 

He continues: “It is also preferable on all appointments to obtain tenant or landlord details in advance for the purposes of confirming their health status on the day of the appointment or track and trace at a later date.”

In terms of other contractors, the AIIC suggests all clerks discuss booking arrangements with clients on the basis that it is preferable to complete appointments in absence of other contractors, as their presence, particularly in smaller properties can make social distancing and adherence to the restrictions more difficult. 

“Where they are present you should aim to manage the situation accordingly and ensure they are also using the correct PPE in line with government guidance” says the association.

It adds that all clerks should be equipped with adequate PPE and standard precautions – gloves, masks, hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes – prior to entering a property.

Clerks should wash or sanitise hands thoroughly before, during and after a property visit.
