Developer L&G has submitted plans for a £70m build-to-rent housing site in North Horsham.
The development will aim to deliver 124 Suburban Build To Rent (SBTR) homes and 97 homes for social rent, affordable rent and shared ownership. The scheme is the second build-to-rent suburban housing development to be launched in 2021, following on from the rise in urban build-to-rent apartments in recent years.
L&G will use its modular housing factory in Yorkshire to support the North Horsham scheme by carrying out offsite construction.
James Lidgate, who heads the housebuilding operations for L&G, said: “This site represents the first step for Legal & General to expand its current strategic land capabilities into master development.”
L&G chief executive Nigel Wilson said the development would flip the approach to delivering social infrastructure for the area. “This new approach, which prioritises developing important infrastructure for local areas in the first building phase Legal & General has helped advance the completion of the infrastructure for a new school, Bohunt School, to bolster high quality options for nearby families.” The new school could open in 2022, the company said.
