Newham-based housing company Populo Living has appointed the contractor Higgins to build 77 new homes let at London Affordable Rent at its site at Grange Road, Plaistow.
The £18m project comprises the re-development of previously derelict and vacant land to create two contemporary mansion blocks of five and six storeys. The development will include a landscaped communal garden, cycle storage and open views across the Greenway.
Steve Leakey, managing director for Higgins, said: “With the critical need for affordable housing in Newham we are pleased to be awarded this contract by Populo Living to build these high quality homes.
“We look forward to working with them in the coming months to deliver these much-needed homes for the local community.”
The homes back on to the Greenway, the 4.3 mile long raised footpath and off-road cycle route, providing links from Royal Docks Road in Beckton through to Stratford and the Olympic Park.
Deborah Heenan, chief executive of Populo Living said: “Our impressive, generous and light filled apartments exceed relevant design standards and will be a welcome addition to Plaistow.
“The team at Populo Living are looking forward to welcoming families into these homes soon and being part of the local community for years to come.”
